What do I do if I did not pay a toll?
Missed paying a toll on the Illinois Tollway? No problem. For up to 14 days after you’ve traveled, you can enter your vehicle and payment information into the Pay By Plate system, and you’ll have the peace of mind knowing you’ll avoid added fines and fees. Tip - If you’ve already traveled, be sure to backdate your plate information to reflect your beginning date of travel.
How do you pay tolls in Illinois?
You can pay your tolls on the Illinois Tollway using I-PASS, E-ZPass or the Tollway's Pay By Plate service.
How long does it take to get a toll bill in the mail?
We will issue a toll invoice 30 days after the unpaid toll. Additional invoices will be sent after 60 and 90 days, with additional fees per toll. Actual mailing times may vary.

How much is a missed toll in Illinois?

The first invoice includes a $3 fee per toll for passenger vehicles ($5-$15 for commercial vehicles), plus any unpaid tolls owed. The fees owed will continue growing as more time passes.

How much is an I-PASS (sticker tag) in Illinois?

Can I switch from Pay by Plate to I-PASS?

How do I add money to Illinois I-PASS?
There are a few ways to add money to an Illinois I-PASS account, including:
- Sign in to your account and select "Add funds"
- Call our customer service team at (1-800-824-7277)
- Use the the Official Illinois Tollway App and select "Add funds"
- Visit an Illinois Tollway customer service center
TIP: Avoid fees and fines by setting up automatic replenishment so that your account remains in good standing. This works by preauthorizing the Tollway to charge your credit or debit card a set amount when your balance falls below a certain amount.
How do I activate my I-PASS sticker online?
If you picked up an I-PASS sticker tag from an Illinois Tollway customer service center, it is already activated. If you ordered one online or purchased one from Jewel-Osco or Road Ranger, you must activate before use. Call 1-800-824-7277 or activate online at www.illinoistollway.com. Be prepared to provide the serial number and activation code from the I-PASS sticker tag.
How do I check if my transponder is still active?
The best way to verify that your I-PASS is active is by signing in to your account online or on the Official Illinois Tollway App and reviewing your transactions.
How do I get an I-PASS sticker in Illinois?
You can order an I-PASS sticker by signing in to your account online at illinoistollway.com or on the Official Illinois Tollway App (Go to "Transponder", then select "Order Transponder"). You can also get a sticker in person at Illinois Tollway Customer Service Centers, Jewel-Osco or RoadRanger. If you get your sticker at Jewel-Osco or RoadRanger, they will need to be activated online to connect them to your Tollway account before use.
Can I use my I-PASS in another car?
If you have multiple cars, you should order an I-PASS Sticker Tag for each vehicle thought the Ilinois Tollway website or at an Illinois Tollway Customer Service Center.
How to replace I-PASS transponder with sticker?
We will let you know when the time is right to swap out your old I-PASS transponder for a new I-PASS Sticker Tag.
The Tollway is now mailing I-PASS Sticker Tags directly to customers whose old transponders are reaching the end of their battery life.
After receiving the swap letter via U.S. Mail, all customers need to do is activate the new I-PASS Sticker Tag by going online or using the Official Illinois Tollway App and then put the new sticker tag on the windshield of their vehicle.
Do external toll tags work in Illinois?
Drivers with E-ZPass can use their E-ZPass tags and accounts for travel on any Illinois toll road.

How does Illinois Tollway Pay by Plate work?
The Illinois Tollway’s Pay by Plate feature allows you to enter your license plate and payment information up to 14 days after travel to capture your tolls and allow you to avoid fines and fees.
The Illinois Tollway will charge your credit card the cash rate for tolls. A valid credit card must remain on the account until the tolls are fully processed, which may take up to 30 days after you use the Tollway. Once the credit card is deleted, the Pay by Plate service is disabled. You may reactivate the service, as needed, by adding credit card information. The Pay by Plate service is an ideal option for non-I-PASS customers and travelers to Illinois. Please note, Pay by Plate is only usable on the Illinois Tollway. It is not usable on the Skyway (in Illinois) or in other states.
